Season’s changing here at the Northern Valley Haven
The sun appears to be eager to set, the wind flaunting a cool and crisp attitude. And while the leaves are still deciding their colors, there seems to be certain excitement in the air.
Well, at least in my home, the much-awaited moment is here! We are thrilled to announce our guest participation in the One Room Challenge for the Fall of 2021!!
I stumbled upon One Room Challenge a couple of years ago, at I was a lost kid in the candy store. The excitement, the energy, the amazing ideas were all so intriguing. So, when I did get an opportunity to participate, I wasn’t going to miss it! I am ready!
What is the One Room Challenge?
If you aren’t familiar with the One Room Challenge, it’s a bi-annual event created to provide a supportive, enthusiastic forum through the process of transforming a space. Each event extends for 8 weeks highlighting 20 exclusive bloggers/designers as featured designers and is open to Bloggers and content creators to join as guest participants!
A huge thank you to Linda Weinstein, the founder, and organizer of the amazing One Room Challenge™ and Better Homes and Garden for being the media partner this year!

Our dirty little laundry Secret
They say there is a dark side to everything! That’s exactly how I felt about our laundry room. Especially after I saw what was on the other side of the wall.
Our laundry room from when we bought the house
There is a lot of things I do not like about this space. For one, this is located at the lower level of our split-level home. I would rather much prefer main floor laundry, but this wasn’t anything we could fix. Next are these tiles that I detest. Simply couldn’t stand them. And the cherry on top was the fact there were no windows. I really hated doing laundry.
So, we did the next best thing, as soon as we moved in!
Our current laundry room
Who knew a can of paint and sturdy shelving could go such a long way? But this room has so much more potential. Challenge Accepted!
Let’s get inspired!
The ORC Website has easily become my go-to place for inspiration. When it came to the laundry room there was one particular post that I kept coming back to.
Gorgeous Laundry MakeOver by Vanessa Francis
This space is a lot like ours. To begin with, they are about the same size and to add it has no windows. But this is truly a gorgeous space, so bright and airy. That muted pink paneling is so chic! Oh my, have I, neutral obsessed, taken a liking for color? We shall find out.
Our expectation for this space is quite straightforward!
Storage! Storage! Storage! While laundering is the primary purpose for this space, we must be able to put in some cabinets for storing our supplies and gadgets, and utilities that are not used too often.
Do it on a dime! While it’s nice to sit back and watch contractors bring our ideas to life, we don’t want to get carried away with this project. Our goal is to obtain maximum impact at a minimal budget. So, you will be seeing a lot of DIYs.
Esthetically Pleasing! For me the design is everything. We want the wall behind the machines to be our focus so we can turn our backs to whatever is behind us!
So, what is the secret you ask? That my friends will have to wait for another week.
In the meantime, check out how other challengers are doing. And follow these hashtags on social media to see their transformations: #oneroomchallenge and #bhgorc.
